IP number is the most used alternative word for IP address. An
IP number (= IP address = Internet Protocol Address) is a logical address of a
network adapter.
The IP number is a unique number and identifies computers on a network.
An IP number can be private, for use on a LAN, or public, for use
on the Internet or other WAN. IP numbers can be determined
statically (assigned to a computer by a system administrator) or
dynamically (assigned by another device on the network on demand).
IP numbers consist of four bytes (with 32 bits). Each byte of an IP
number is known as an octet and can take any value between 0 and
255.
There are various rules for ensuring IP numbers are valid. Here
is an example for an IP number:
66.230.188.82.
